Let’s Take A Look Curators Look at Your Treasures

12 to 2 PM / Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

During this time, curators from The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and The Laboratory of Anthropology are in the lobby of MIAC to look at your treasures. These curators will attempt to identify and explain any artifact or historic object presented to them.

The event is always FREE and open to the public.  Federal and State regulations prohibit the curators from appraising any artifact.

Oral historian Jack Loeffler discusses his friendship with the late author Edward Abbey and shows Lonely Are the Brave, the movie version of Abbey's novel The Brave Cowboy, filmed in New Mexico. A free event at 6 pm on Friday, July 19, in the History Museum Auditorium. Part of Cowboys Real and Imagined.

Starting April 15 and continuing through mid-October, learn about the history of Santa Fe on a Downtown Walking Tour led by New Mexico History Museum/Palace of the Governors guides every Monday through Saturday. Gather at the Palace Courtyard's Blue Gate just south of the History Museum entrance at 113 Lincoln Avenue at 10:15 am. Cost: $10; children 16 and under free when with an adult. Museum guides do not accept tips. (No tours on Saturdays when large events are held on the Plaza, such as Spanish Market and Santa Fe Fiesta.)

This popular program provides an opportunity to meet and learn about Native American artists and arts through talks, tours of our exhibits, or behind the scenes with MIAC curators, scholars and artists. Reservations are required for each event, and seating is limited.

Call the MIAC shop for tickets at 505-982-5057 or purchase in person at the MIAC shop. Full breakfast at the Museum Hill Café, followed by programs at the Museum. Cost is $35 per person, or $30 per person for MNMF members. Museum admission included.

Cowboy Music by Mark Gardner and Rex Rideout Cowboys Real and Imagined

Music historians Mark Gardner and Rex Rideout perform and discuss the cowboy ballads collected by New Mexico cowboy, rancher, surveyor, and state cattle inspector N. Howard “Jack” Thorp, who published the very first book of cowboy songs at Estancia, NM, in 1908. Their performance, part of the museum's "Wild West Weekend," is at 6 pm on Friday, Aug. 9, in the History Museum Auditorium. A free event, part of Cowboys Real and Imagined.
