
Dawn ’Til Dusk with film screening of Eating History
Los Luceros Historic Site (LLHS) offers extended hours from sunrise to sunset on the first Sunday of each month. During this time, entrance into LLHS is FREE for New Mexico residents with ID.
This month, watch a film screening 10 a.m., 1 p.m., or 3 p.m. of Eating History: A Taste of New Mexico, produced by the Museum of New Mexico Foundation. Eating History is a captivating documentary about New Mexico’s intricate relationship with food. It showcases how food has influenced and defined diverse cultures, contributing to its unique culinary identity. Los Luceros Historic Site’s Manager, Michelle Zupan, is featured in the film, as well as farmers from the Northern Rio Grande region. Learn more at https://www.eatinghistory-nm.com/.
At 11:30 a.m. Interpretive Ranger Kara will offer Read with a Ranger story time, reading the children’s book Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard. This book celebrates Native American families and community. Fry bread can have all types of toppings and be eaten for so many different occasions. Each family has their own way of preparing fry bread and their own traditions, but every family is connected by the story it helps tell. Story time takes place in the Community Room and is followed by a kids’ craft ending by 12:30 p.m.
In addition to story time, visitors can enjoy bird watching, explore the historic buildings and nature trails, and visit with the farm animals.
Entrance is free for New Mexico residents with ID. Regular admission for non-residents is $7/adult and free to children 16 and younger.
