Join the Friends of Contemporary Art and Photography (FOCAP) for a trip to the Great Salt Lake to discover and learn about land-based art. We will celebrate the FOCAP assistance in acquiring a Nancy Holt work for the Museum of Art’s collection, as well as the forthcoming opening of the Vladem Contemporary and its inaugural exhibition Shadow and Light.

  • Total cost per person: $1,500
  • Time spent in a car: roughly 11 hours with breaks.
  • Art we will visit: two large-scale land art installations -- Nancy Holt's Sun Tunnels and Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty, one large sculpture from the road titled Tree of Life, current exhibitions at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and the option to see even more during free time.
  • Other sights and experiences we will take in: a cowboy bar, a speakeasy behind a sink, the Bonneville Salt Flats, beautiful views of the mountains, delicious food, a ghost town, and the insides of our eyelids at the end of a long day.

Your $1,500 registration fee includes lodging, breakfast, transportation to and from the hotel and the land art sites, two lunches, and a goodie bag full of land art swag. $131.86 of your registration fee is tax-deductible.

Space is limited. To register, please call or email Stephanie Wilson at the Museum of New Mexico Foundation: stephanie@museumfoundation.org or 505.216.1186. Registration deadline is Monday, March 13.

Your registration fee does not include dinner on the first and third nights, transportation from Santa Fe to Salt Lake City, or transport from the SLC airport to the hotel.
