Office of Archaeological Studies | November 2025

The Office of Archaeological Studies (OAS) wrapped up a successful October with continued outreach across the state, delivering programs to schools and libraries in Santa Fe, Gallup, Taos, and Clayton. Staff also participated in several regional festivals, offering flintknapping and pottery demos that connected thousands of New Mexicans to the state’s deep archaeological heritage. Planning continues for the Ice Age New Mexico program, a hands-on educational initiative that will launch in early 2026.

The Friends of Archaeology completed a member survey which will be used to better-inform their 2026 program planning. Their philanthropic goal is to fund a new school-bus fund for the OAS, as well as the Ice Age bone-clones needed for OAS hands-on educational programming.

While OAS will not host public events in November, however their education team will remain active with site visits and outreach programming, and their labs will continue artifact analysis, field reporting, and research in support of cultural resource compliance.

As year-end giving season begins, trustees are encouraged to support OAS’s Education and Outreach Program, which reached more than 6,200 people last year—including over 800 Native youth—through interactive, community-based learning. Contributions directly fund travel, materials, staffing, and the launch of new programming like Ice Age New Mexico.
