Roots and Walls: Growing Up in an Historic New Mexican House
Vernick Auditorium
A Q&A with Michael Taylor
Michael grew up in the Taylor-Mesilla House, New Mexico’s newest historic site, located on the Old Mesilla plaza. The property, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, includes two storefronts and a large residence dating back to the 1850s, with significant preservation by J. Paul and Mary Daniels Taylor beginning in 1953. The Taylors resided there for 60 years and assembled an exceptional collection of Spanish Colonial, Mexican, and New Mexican art and textiles.
Michael Taylor has had a distinguished career in cultural resource management, including service with the National Park Service and studies in Rome and Valencia. We look forward to his insights on growing up in this remarkable home and family.
