Museum of International Folk Art | February 2026

The Advancement Committee for the Museum of International Folk Art is inviting you to join us on Sunday, February 22 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. for a Donor Celebration and Book Launch: Alexander Girard’s Imagined Worlds, including a presentation and conversation featuring the book editors, designers and special guests Aleishall Girard Maxon and Kori Girard of the Girard Studio. A reception in the Atrium will follow. Advance copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.

Alexander Girard’s Imagined Worlds explores how Girard’s global folk art collection and vernacular traditions shaped his visionary modern design practice, with Santa Fe and the Museum of International Folk Art at its center. Lavishly illustrated, the book reveals the inseparable relationship between Girard’s collecting and design, culminating in his exhibition Multiple Visions: A Common Bond. Through new essays and reflections on artists, traditions and displays, it offers fresh perspectives on Girard’s enduring legacy. Edited by Monica Obniski and Laura Addison. Published by the Museum of International Folk Art in association with Hirmer Publishers.

We are grateful to all the donors to the Girard Campaign whose support has helped make this publication and the stewardship of the Girard Foundation collection, archives and installation, Multiple Visions: A Common Bond, possible. Since 2007, the Foundation has raised over $3.3 million for the Campaign, including $2.8 million in estimated planned gifts and cash for the Girard Legacy Endowment Fund.

We are grateful to the underwriters for this event: Addison Arts, Cathy Campbell, Rae Hoffacker and Peter Pappas, Edelma and David Huntley, Mary Anne and Bruce Larsen and TOKo Santa Fe.

Special thanks to the planning committee: Laura Addison, Cathy Campbell, Charlene Cerny, Linda Feldman-Duritz, Margie Hiestand, Sara Julsrud, Kathy Parks-Yoast, Laura Sullivan and Jo Ann Ward.

Here is a quote from a community member underscoring their gratitude for Lunar New Year.

Dear Museum of International Folk Art Staff,

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your museum and for the work you put in to make the Lunar New Year Celebration happen every year. We are an Asian family (all U.S. citizens) and the Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays in our culture. We are grateful that our daughters can experience lion dance and the wonderful activities you organize. More importantly, thank you for having this opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate and better understand one another - your work has never been more important.

Best regards,

Amy (in White Rock)

Strengthening MOIFA’s Future

Our consultants from Benefactor Group have completed a Feasibility Study for a proposed capital campaign for the museum. The study was conducted during the fall months and involved interviewing 34 external stakeholders/donors and 4 discussion groups as well as an internal assessment of the Foundation’s capacity for fundraising. The results from both the external analysis as well as the internal campaign readiness assessment will be shared once the new President and CEO for MNMF has had a chance to review the findings.
