Office of Archaeological Studies | March 2026
The Office of Archaeological Studies has secured an additional $100,000 distribution from the Susan S. Martin Charitable Giving Fund to support research and educational programming. With this significant investment, OAS is currently at 145% of its FY26 fundraising goal, a strong reflection of trustee leadership and donor confidence in the office’s statewide impact.
Over February and into March, OAS continued expanding public scholarship and community engagement. The 2026 Brown Bag Lecture Series is underway at the Center for New Mexico Archaeology, offering accessible presentations on current archaeological research. In partnership with the Santa Fe Archaeological Society, the Friends of Archaeology are also hosting a spring lecture series focused on the Coronado Expedition and new archaeological evidence across the Southwest. Upcoming events include presentations by Richard and Shirley Flint, Deni Seymour, and Douglas Preston. Details and registration information can be found at the Friends of Archaeology Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/friends-of-archaeology-1377539.
Field training and workforce development remain central priorities. OAS has partnered with Eastern New Mexico University to expand field training opportunities at Blackwater Draw, one of the most significant Clovis culture sites in North America.
Lastly, I will be departing MNMF on March 6 to assume a new role as Campaign Director at Girls Inc. of Santa Fe, helping them fundraise to build a large new facility on Rufina Street. It has been a genuine privilege to work with you all in support of the Office of Archaeological Studies over the last five years. The impact you have created at OAS and in our community is truly remarkable and inspiring to witness. I sincerely hope to see you all around Santa Fe and would love to stay in touch.
