Celebrating Our Ancestors

Join Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) at Los Luceros Historic Site for a heartfelt and creative workshop dedicated to honoring the memories, stories, and traditions of those who came before us.

Participants will explore the rich history and cultural significance of ancestor remembrance traditions, including the creation of ofrendas (altars) to celebrate and honor loved ones who have passed on.

We will discuss the history and symbolism of ofrendas, their connection to family traditions, and the importance of remembering those who helped shape our lives and communities.

Participants will create custom fabric prints using photographs, family symbols, meaningful words, and nature-inspired designs, while also assembling a personalized scrapbook filled with memories, stories, images, and keepsakes.

Together, we will create a small personal ofrenda and explore how objects, photographs, flowers, candles, food, and other meaningful items can be used to tell the stories of our ancestors and keep their memories alive for future generations.
