Straw Applique Workshop

Join Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) at Los Luceros Historic Site for a workshop celebrating a folk art practiced throughout Northern New Mexico and rooted in centuries of cultural tradition.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to prepare, flatten, cut, and shape straw into decorative designs inspired by nature, faith, and everyday life. Students will create their own straw appliqué artwork while exploring the history and cultural significance of this unique heritage art form. Through guided instruction, participants will gain an understanding of traditional techniques and leave with a finished piece suitable for framing or gifting.
