Guests were shuttled from Museum Hill, down the Turquoise Trail, to Douglas Magnus and Wendy Rodrigue Magnus’ Millennium Turquoise Mine for a beautiful evening event. Chef Marianne Sundquist of High Desert Table provided lovely hors d’oeuvres and guests enjoyed a signature turquoise margarita cocktail and turquoise-inspired chocolate truffles.
Douglas entertained members with stories of his Millennium Mine, which was commonly known as the ‘Tiffany Mine’, because in the late 19th and early 20th century, the finest turquoise extracted from this site was sent to Tiffany & Co. Charles Bennett, retired Assistant Director of the Palace of Governors, provided context about mining in the region, history of the Turquoise Trail and the Indigenous People who relied on turquoise for trade and ceremonial pieces. Wendy modeled jewelry created by Douglas from this mine's turquoise.
Aidrian Wall of Jemez Pueblo, provided background music for the event, both above and below ground—traditional flute inside the mine and guitar out on the mesa as evening descended. As the event was coming to a close, an approaching thunderstorm treated guests to an amazing light show before they journeyed back to Museum Hill.
Thank you all for making this an unforgettable evening.
