Museum of Indian Arts and Culture | October 2026

On Thursday evening, September 17, Friends of Indian Art (FIA) gathered to celebrate the artists whose art was purchased by FIA for the MIAC permanent collection this past year.
Artists Robert Whitehair Begay (Diné), Duhon James (Diné), Claudia Mitchell (Acoma), Rain Scott (Acoma/Diné), Suzanne Herrera Naranjo (Santa Clara), and Adrian Standing Elk Pinnecoose (Diné/Southern Ute) will attend. Although Lynda Teller Peet (Diné) was not able to join us, the beautiful weaving which was introduced to FIA members on May 21 was on display.
MIAC Director Danyelle Means made welcoming remarks, followed by brief artist introductions. The new acquisitions were displayed in a small classroom on the lower level of MIAC, allowing for close inspection, much closer than traditionally allowed in a museum setting. Having the artists available to talk about their inspiration and process with guests was a rare and wonderful opportunity.
