CIRCLES EXPLORERS| March 2024

Explorers only events:

On Saturday, May 18, New Mexico Museum of Art Assistant Curator Katie Doyle will take Explorers members on a private tour of Rick Dillingham: To Make, Unmake, and Make Again at the New Mexico Museum of Art Plaza Building. She will share her intimate knowledge of the Dillingham’s career, from his early beginnings to final pieces.

Afterwards we will gather at Tumbleroot Pottery Pub for a hands-on pottery making experience with light appetizers and cocktails. A prize will be awarded for the best piece but there is a special twist before a winner can be selected. We are always looking for new Explorers and this is a perfect opportunity to invite a friend! Evite will be mailed soon.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 7, 8 and 9 Explorers head to Pecos for a weekend glamping experience filled with archaeology, guided hiking tours, fabulous meals, educational talks and more.

The weekend includes gourmet meals prepared by the Museum of New Mexico Foundation’s Corporate Partner Chef Peter O’ Brien with High Mountain Cuisine and activity highlights include a micaceous pottery demonstration and talk with artist Lee Onstott, and two talks with archeologist and anthropologist Mary Weahkee (Santa Clara/Comanche). The weekend will also include a ranger guided tour of Pecos National Park and Forked Lightning Pueblo with Jeremy M. Moss, chief of resource stewardship and scientist and archaeologist.

There are a few more glamping accommodations left. For information on this weekend trip contact cara@museumfoundation.org

Then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 25 – 27, Explorers will return to Canyon de Chelly. If you joined us in 2019, we invite you to come again, if you missed it last time, now's your chance!

Spend a day exploring the Canyon with Navajo guides learning about the Navajo and ancestral peoples who have lived in the area for millennia. We will stop at incredible cultural sites including Acoma Sky City, the Navajo Nation Museum and the Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site. Overnight accommodations are at the famous Thunderbird Lodge. Invitation to r.s.v.p. will drop late spring.

Explorers’ FYTD revenue:

As of February, we are at $25,000 in revenue for Explorers. Our fiscal end of year goal is $50,000. Between now and end of June we need to generate an additional $25,000 in order to meet our year end goal. There are several ways we are working towards this goal. The main way is through membership retention. Our renewals are performing well but we are always looking for new members.

Our new member campaign slogan is Bring a Friend. There will be several opportunities throughout the year that we would like to encourage you to do just that. Bring someone you think would be a good fit to our Explorers family. For more information on events that you can Bring a Friend, please contact Cara O'Brien at cara@museumfoundation.org.
