The New Mexico History Museum and La Fonda on the Plaza invite you to go "off the beaten path in the Great Southwest" in this armchair travel presentation in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Fred Harvey Company’s Indian Detours. Join four speakers for a visual tour of the newly renovated 1926 La Fonda Hotel, motor coaches and accommodations, tour destinations, and optional side trips. They’ll share not only the history of Indian Detours, but how the Detours have been revisited, reimagined, and reclaimed for today’s travelers.

Join four guest speakers at La Fonda at the Plaza for photos and stories about the history of Indian Detours. Ed Pulsifer, historian at La Fonda on the Plaza, will give a tour of yesteryear, when the Fred Harvey Company started its residency and Mary Colter’s vision radically changed the look and feel of the hotel. History Museum Librarian & Archivist, Kathleen Dull, will introduce the motor cruise’s tour routes, as well as their vehicles, drivers and distinctive female couriers. Hear from Harold Stacy, a Detours descendant, about Detours after its time with the Fred Harvey Company and through the history of the last remaining Harveycar. Finally, Elmer and Deborah Torres from San Ildefonso Pueblo will introduce how they have re-envisioned and reclaimed Indian Detours for today’s travelers. Travel through 100 years of history with the Fred Harvey Company’s Indian Detours in a single afternoon!

This event takes place at La Fonda on the Plaza, Lumpkins Ballroom, 100 E. San Francisco St. Santa Fe, NM 87501.
