The Fred Harvey Company’s Indian Detours revolutionized tourism in the Southwest and was based at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe. Guests were driven around the dirt roads of New Mexico and the southwest in Packards and Cadiallacs. This particular vehicle was driven by Mr. Jack Stacy and his courier guide (& eventual wife) Lucille. The couple purchased the vehicle following their time with the Harvey Company and it stayed in Santa
Fe for many years before it was sold to Xanterra and moved to the Grand Canyon where it has outlasted all the other Harvey Cars.
On the cusp of the centenary of both Route 66 and the Harvey Company’s Indian Detours, the car has been lovingly and painstakingly restored to its 1929 beauty. The car will be in New Mexico and on display at the History Museum for just a brief time. Come and hear its story from the expert who revived and saved a unique piece of history.
