Dawn ’Til Dusk
Los Luceros Historic Site (LLHS) offers extended hours from sunrise to sunset on the first Sunday of each month. During this time, entrance into LLHS is FREE for New Mexico residents with ID. Enjoy bird watching, listen to a children’s story led by a ranger, and participate in hands-on activities.
Take a guided bird walk with staff from the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) at 7 a.m. Sign-up ahead of time online at https://peecnature.org/events/.
At 1 p.m. Interpretive Ranger Kara will offer Read with a Ranger story time, reading the story Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem by Amanda Gorman, which talks about how even the smallest hands have the power to change the world and do good. This book supports those who have hope and the courage to do good deeds and be kind, even when discouraged. After reading the story, Kara will lead a related craft activity.
At 1:30 p.m. Instructional Coordinator Supervisor Rebecca Ward will lead a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) program exploring math through fractals, which are patterns often found in nature. Participants will explore the site in search of fractal patterns and then create patterns of their own in the classroom.
Visitors are free to explore the historic buildings, nature trails, and farm animals. Los Luceros offers a unique opportunity for people to explore and enjoy the site from dawn until dusk on the first Sunday of each month. Entrance is free for New Mexico residents with ID. Regular admission for non-residents is $7/adult and free to children 16 and younger. Kara will lead a children’s craft activity after the story.
