
In Conversation with Margaret Wood author of In the Painters Kitchen
The New Mexico History Museum invites the public to an insightful afternoon with Margaret Wood, author of "A Painter’s Kitchen," on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Auditorium and Lobby for an event entitled, "In Conversation with Margaret Wood author of "A Painter’s Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O’Keeffe." This event, part of the Museum’s "New Mexico on a Plate with Chef Johnny Vee and Friends" series, supports the museum’s ongoing Food Heritage program.
Join Margaret Wood and moderator Chef Johnny Vee for an inside look into the personal life and culinary loves of New Mexico icon Georgia O’Keeffe. "A Painter’s Kitchen" is Margaret Wood’s recollection of 70 recipes from O’Keeffe’s kitchen, stemming from her five years as O’Keeffe’s companion and personal chef. Wood will share charming memories and historical anecdotes, revealing how O’Keeffe directed the preparation of simple, delicious meals using fresh ingredients, paying meticulous attention to every step of the process.
Georgia O’Keeffe, renowned for her striking paintings of the Southwest, extended her creativity into the kitchen, taking great pride in her healthy culinary style. The meals served in her household focused on homegrown and natural foods, always showcasing rich flavors, simplicity, and beautiful presentation.

The "New Mexico on a Plate with Chef Johnny Vee and Friends" series is a key component of the New Mexico History Museum’s Food Heritage program, dedicated to preserving and celebrating New Mexico’s rich culinary traditions. By exploring the connection between food, culture, and history, the program fosters a deeper understanding of the state’s diverse heritage.
