Presented by Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA), and held at Los Luceros Historic Site, learn about micaceous clay pottery in this hands-on workshop. Known for its shimmering surface and cultural significance, micaceous clay has been used for generations in everyday cooking and ceremonial practices. In this class, participants will prepare and hand-build a functional tea pot using traditional techniques by forming the body, spout, handle, and lid. Participants will also receive guidance on drying and firing the pot for a sparkling, durable finish. By the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a unique micaceous tea pot crafted for ceremonial and heritage use. The class is $50 per person and all materials are provided.
