Read with a Ranger Story Time
Interpretive Ranger Kara will offer Read with a Ranger story time, reading the Caldecott Medal winner We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom followed by a related craft activity. This book celebrates those who are willing to protect the Earth’s natural resources and those who are unable to protect themselves.
We Are Water Protectors hearkens to the battle of Standing Rock, where the Standing Rock Sioux tried to prevent the Dakota Access Pipeline. Other tribes and groups came together as allies to try and protect the Sioux’s sacred grounds. New Mexico is fortunate enough to have access to amazing natural resources. Its past inhabitants have protected as best they could, and it is up to new generations to ensure that those resources, creatures, and people are kept safe and secure. Los Luceros Historic Site echoes this need, in its connection to the river, its livestock, and bosque.
Kara will lead a children’s craft activity after the story and suggests visitors check out the river and bosque after story time.
All ages are invited to attend. Children must have a guardian present.
Entrance is free for all New Mexico residents with ID. Regular admission for non-residents is $7/adult and free to children 16 and younger.
