STEAM Sundays: Macroinvertebrates Everywhere!
Children ages 10 and older are invited for a new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Sunday program at Los Luceros Historic Site. This week’s program is about macroinvertibrates in the Rio Grande.
Explore the extensive Riparian Zone (the river area) of Los Luceros! Students who join this class will learn about the health of our bend of the Rio Grande. We will explore caddisfly, mayfly, and stonefly biology and discover what makes them special. Students will take a hike through the bosque and see the natural spring and the pond on site. Students will also learn about the animals that prey upon the water insects we will see up close. Students are encouraged to bring water shoes, but we will NOT be swimming in the Rio Grande.
For ages 10 and older. Pre-registration is not required. Parents/Guardians are welcome to stay for the class. Site visitation is $7 per adult and free to children 16 and younger.
