Water in the Mesilla Valley Lecture & Walk
Join Ranger Daniel for a discussion of water in the Mesilla Valley. Meet Ranger Daniel in the Reynolds Store before walking over to the Acequia Madre, or “Mother Ditch,” to discuss the historic canals and irrigation system. Learn about how the Rio Grande shifted course over time, changes to the river’s plants and animals, and why seasonal flooding caused problems for people living in the floodplain. Participants will gain a greater appreciation of the vital importance of water for people and agriculture across the Mesilla Valley. This program is FREE! Call 575-202-1638 for more information.
