MIAC | April 2025

Makowa: the Worlds Above Us will explore how Indigenous peoples of the Southwest have connected with the sky through art, science, and storytelling—featuring ancient pottery, modern astrophotography and interviews with Native scientists. Makowa will offer a unique, immersive experience that celebrates the timeless relationship between Indigenous communities and the celestial world.

Support the Exhibition

The Museum of New Mexico Foundation is the fundraising partner for the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs’ Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC), generating significant support each year for MIAC’s exhibitions, educational programs and acquisitions. To bring this visionary exhibition to life, we need to raise $100,000 to cover essential costs such as curation, conservation, installation, and promotional efforts. However, MIAC’s commitment extends beyond the museum walls. The museum also aims to raise an additional $100,000 to fund a full-time educator, who will bring Makowa to schools, libraries, and community centers across New Mexico, ensuring that communities—especially in rural and underserved areas—can engage with this incredible exhibition.  Your generous contribution will support both the exhibition and our outreach efforts, allowing MIAC to make Makowa accessible to thousands of people across the state. Donations are fully tax-deductible. Sponsors are integral to funding exhibition costs, including curation, community outreach, conservation, installation and promotion. We are seeking the following sponsorships to help support this exhibition.
