MIAC | FEBRUARY 2024

We are excited to announce that the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture’s 20th annual Native Treasures Art Market will take place May 24 through 26, 2024 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center. We are also thrilled to share that the New Mexico Tourism Department is one of the event’s signature sponsors this year, providing even more state support for the market in the months ahead.

We are currently planning some exciting benefits for event sponsors including an invitation to a private Living Treasure party honoring incoming Living Treasure Artist Patricia Michaels (Taos Pueblo) and incoming Legacy Artist Martha Arquero (Cochiti Pueblo). For a link to purchase event tickets and to learn more about sponsorship opportunities and benefits, please visit museumfoundation.org/native-treasures.

The last Native Narrative program with Dr. Porter Swentzell was completely sold-out with a long waitlist. The program, which focused on the history of Pueblo revolts, was incredibly engaging and educational. I hope you will be able to attend the next Native Narratives program featuring esteemed artist, Tony Abeyta (Navajo) on Friday, February 16 from 1-3 pm. Over the next few months, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture’s new leadership will be very busy overseeing construction on the Contemporary Native Art Gallery and implementing new polices under the updated Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) guidelines. They are also busy hiring new staff, including Emily Berkes, MIAC’s newest Educational Coordinator. Welcome, Emily!
