MIAC | March 2024

The latest Native Narratives program featuring esteemed artist, Tony Abeyta (Navajo) on February 16 was completely sold-out weeks in advance. The program was so inspirational and moving that the audience gave Tony a standing ovation at the end of the program. A recording of the program will be made publicly available soon.

The next event in the series will focus on Native Women Leadership in the Arts, followed by a program featuring Julie O’Keefe (Osage), Lead Osage Clothing Consultant for the Oscar-Nominated Film Killers of the Flower Moon. Click this link to register. Use promo code MNMFMEMBER in the top right-hand corner of the page for free admission. This series is generously funded by Edward and Maria Gale, Gale Family Foundation.

If you visit the museum, you will see a new temporary wall blocking the atrium which will be built into the new contemporary Native art gallery opening soon! The Buchsbaum Gallery of Southwest Pottery will remain closed while the heavy construction continues, so as not to damage the pottery on the shelves. In May, the Lloyd Kiva New Gallery will reopen with a Zig Jackson photography exhibition and the 2024 Living Treasures exhibition featuring Patricia Michaels (Taos Pueblo). We are currently seeking donations for Patricia’s exhibition of couture Native fashion.

Lastly, 2024 Native Treasures event tickets and sponsorship opportunities are now available. Sponsors $1,000+ will be invited to a very special Living Treasure cocktail party at the home of Joel McHorse (Taos Pueblo) and his late wife, Christine McHorse (Navajo). All former Living Treasure artists and Native Treasures Gold+ sponsors will be invited to this special welcome party for the 2024 Living Treasure, Patricia Michaels.
