Reflecting on a Remarkable Year: MOIFA’s 2025 Impact
Watch our 3-minute thank-you video here.
As we begin 2026, we look back on 2025 with immense gratitude for the generosity, partnership and enthusiasm that sustain the Museum of International Folk Art. As of the end of November, together in this fiscal year (July 1–November 30), we have raised $395,700 toward our $645,000 goal—including $103,150 in exhibition development support and $17,500 for educational programs and statewide outreach initiatives. Your support fuels everything we do: connecting cultures, inspiring creativity, and sharing global artistic traditions with communities across New Mexico and beyond.

A Year of Meaningful Support
In this fiscal year, donors provided key benchmarks that strengthened MOIFA’s impact across our community and beyond:
- Over $70,000 in net proceeds from the Friends of Folk Art World of Treasures auction and party, directly supporting statewide educational outreach, including $5,000 in underwriting from the FOFA board.
- $103,150 in exhibition development support for research, curation and design of upcoming shows.
- $26,460 in unrestricted gifts, giving MOIFA flexibility for operations, collections care, and emerging opportunities.
- $200,000 from an anonymous foundation for a master plan and architectural study—investing in MOIFA’s long-term future.
- $17,500 dedicated to educational programs and statewide outreach.
These contributions go beyond numbers—they are a testament to a community that believes in creativity, cultural exchange and the power of folk art to bring people together.
Exhibition Development, Support, and Looking Ahead
As of the end of November, several exhibitions made meaningful progress in this fiscal year:
- Truths be Told: Artists Activate Traditions – $48,000 of $50,000
- The Art Underground: Fantasy Coffins of Ghana – $48,150 of $75,000
- I Am Clay: Acoma Figurative Pottery – In progress
- La Nueva México – In progress
- Cartonería Traveling Exhibition – $25,000, surpassing the $10,000 goal
These funds support curatorial research, artist collaborations, conservation and interpretive tools that bring exhibitions to life.
Looking ahead, 2026 promises an exciting series of exhibitions. Your continued support will help fund artist partnerships, exhibition design, traveling components, educational materials and installations that reach audiences of all ages. Together, we are creating experiences that deepen cultural understanding, inspire creativity and strengthen community connections.
Education and Statewide Outreach
With $17,500 dedicated to education and outreach (with $20,000 more pledged), MOIFA will be able to expand access to hands-on programs, classroom resources and cultural learning opportunities across New Mexico. Your support ensures that our educational impact reaches far beyond the museum’s walls.
Strengthening MOIFA’s Future
The feasibility study for a potential capital campaign, conducted with Benefactor Group, will help shape MOIFA’s long-term vision. Findings will be presented to the MNMF Trustees in February.
The Girard Legacy Endowment Fund also continued to grow in 2025, reaching approximately $2.8 million toward the $5 million goal, thanks to both planned gifts and current contributions.
