New Mexico History Museum | November 2025

New Mexico History Museum posted an open call for artists to create an indoor mural commemorating the centennial anniversary of the establishment of U.S. Route 66. The Museum received 190 submissions from artists nationwide from which finalists were invited to create concept designs.

Molly Mendenhall was selected as the winner. Molly’s thoughtful and detailed artwork was selected by the Mural Committee to be installed in the museum lobby from January 2026 through January 2027 with a public reception on January 4, 2026.

Work on the mural will commence in November where guests are welcome to view the work in progress and meet the artist during regular museum hours, as available. NMHM is also pleased to host an exhibition at the Governor’s Gallery featuring the artwork of all 5 mural finalists in January 2026.
