New Mexico Museum of Art | April 2026

Celebrate World Art Day on Wednesday, April 15 by going to see the New Mexico Museum of Art’s latest exhibitions.

Paul Burlin: An American Modernist in the Southwest

Exhibition on view: March 21 through October 18, 2026

Goodwin Gallery, Plaza Building

This exhibition reintroduces Paul Burlin (1886-1969) as a foundational yet long-overlooked figure in American Modernism, centering his deep and formative relationship with New Mexico. Featuring early mural paintings – originally inspired by his 1910 visit to New Mexico and recently conserved by the Museum of Art – An American Modernist positions Burlin as an artist who bridged continents and cultures to help shape a distinctly American modern art.

Rooted Strong: Visions of America from New Mexico

Exhibition on view: April 4 through September 7, 2026

The New Wing, Plaza Building

Honoring the multitude of communities, voices, cultures and experiences that have shaped the state, Rooted Strong explores the innumerable histories of New Mexico’s lands and peoples. Featuring work by renowned New Mexico artists, including Fritz Scholder, Emmi Whitehorse, Miguel Gandert, Janet Lippencott and Luis Jiménez, the exhibition celebrates the depth of the Museum of Art’s collection and New Mexico’s place within the American narrative.
