New Mexico Museum of Art | January 2026
Save the date for the public opening of O’Powa O’Meng: The Art and Legacy of Jody Folwell on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the Plaza Building. This is the first major career retrospective dedicated to this groundbreaking artist and a homecoming for the Santa Clara Pueblo potter. The exhibition will be on view through June 21, 2026.
Why This Exhibition Matters
Jody Folwell (Santa Clara Pueblo, b. 1942) stands among the most influential Indigenous artists of our time. Featuring 33 seminal works (including two newly created works especially for this venue), the exhibition traces an extraordinary five-decade journey defined by Folwell’s fearless experimentation, boundary-pushing design and unwavering commitment to truth-telling through art.
Organized by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) and the Fralin Museum of Art, O’Powa O’Meng—“I came home, I found myself, I’m going forward”—places Folwell’s achievements squarely within the canon of American art history, restoring her story to its rightful place and honoring the generational impact of Indigenous women artists.
