New Mexico Museum of Art welcomes new Deputy Director with extensive museum experience

The New Mexico Museum of Art is pleased to announce Stacy Hasselbacher has been named the museum’s Deputy Director. Hasselbacher will oversee all aspects of museum operations, including human, financial, and physical resources. Her leadership will directly impact the museum’s mission through strategic planning, budget management, visitor services, collections access, and facilities maintenance. Additionally, she will represent the museum in the director’s absence and collaborate with various constituencies to advance institutional goals.

Hasselbacher has more than 25 years of experience in museum operations, programming, education, theater, and media. She has an extensive background in digital engagement, interactive exhibit development, and museum education. Prior to joining the New Mexico Museum of Art, she held leadership roles at Ideum, Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return, and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where she played a key role in digital content strategy and visitor-centered programming.

In her new role, Hasselbacher will oversee significant projects, including the ongoing renovation of the museum’s historic 1917 Plaza building and the restoration of the Edgar Lee Hewett House. Her expertise in media and technology will be instrumental in integrating virtual and augmented reality to enhance visitor engagement and accessibility.

A recipient of multiple awards, including an Emmy Award for educational media production and multiple American Alliance of Museums (AAM) Muse Awards, Hasselbacher has a strong track record of innovative museum leadership. She holds a Master’s degree in Instructional Design & Technology from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Theater from Vanderbilt University.
