Timeless Mucha: A Century of Art Nouveau Comes to Santa Fe

The New Mexico Museum of Art is pleased to present Timeless Mucha: The Magic of Line, a major international exhibition celebrating the life and work of Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939), one of the most influential artists of the Art Nouveau movement. The exhibition opens June 20 and runs through September 20, 2025.

Organized by the Mucha Foundation, Timeless Mucha features more than 100 works by the legendary Czech artist, tracing his revolutionary impact on art, design and visual culture from fin-de-siècle Paris to the present day.

Following its North American debut at The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., this Santa Fe presentation offers a rare chance to see Mucha’s masterful illustrations, advertisements and posters—many of which became defining icons of early 20th-century art.

“Mucha’s art transcended its time, becoming a bridge between the fine and decorative arts and inspiring artists from the psychedelic era to contemporary manga creators,” said Dr. Mark White, Executive Director of the New Mexico Museum of Art. “We’re thrilled to bring this immersive experience to Santa Fe.”

A Journey Through Line, Style and Influence

The exhibition is organized thematically, guiding visitors through Mucha’s artistic evolution—from his early training, to his famed posters for actress Sarah Bernhardt, to his wider influence on graphic design, commercial art and global popular culture. His distinct linework, ornate floral motifs and radiant figures continue to echo in 1960s rock posters, comic books and contemporary illustration.

Timeless Mucha is part of a multi-venue North American tour that includes stops in Florida, Missouri and Mexico. Its Santa Fe run provides a unique opportunity to encounter the timeless beauty and visionary style that made Mucha an enduring icon.
