As we close out another fiscal year, we’re proud to share key accomplishments from the museum shops—both in-person and online. While overall sales remained consistent with last year’s strong performance, we saw exciting growth in our web store, which experienced a 30% increase in sales year over year. This continued digital momentum reflects our commitment to meeting visitors wherever they are and expanding access to our unique merchandise beyond museum walls. Our returning customer rate grew by an impressive 9% from last year, and those customers spent about 15% more than they did last year.  We also hosted a series of successful trunk shows this year featuring beloved local artists Marie Romero Cash, Scott Lyons, and Delbert Buck. These special events not only boosted sales but also fostered direct connections between artists and our community—something we deeply value. We look forward to hosting more trunk shows in this next fiscal year, including Peter Ray James and Zuri Clothing, both taking place in July.  Great exhibitions also draw visitors to the museums and encourage visitors to shop! In November, Wevaing Meanings opened to a warm reception, accompanied by beautiful crafts from all across Africa. This exhibit has been so successful for the shop at the Museum of International Folk Art, with wire baskets sold almost daily. Makowa opened earlier in June, which has given MIAC a boost in sales. Most recently, Timeless Mucha opened only a few weeks ago, and already we’ve seen a huge increase in traffic and sales at the Vladem Contemporary Shop. We look forward to new exhibits coming in FY2026.  This year’s success reflects the creativity and hard work of our retail team. We continue to look for new opportunities to grow MNMF Shops and build on the momentum of the previous year. We are grateful for the continued support of the shops, which helps us to fulfill our goals and expand the impact of the museum experience. 

The Office of Archaeological Studies (OAS) continues to lead the field in uncovering and interpreting the human history of the Southwest. With decades of experience and a dedicated team of archaeologists, OAS combines scientific analysis with deep community engagement to bring the past to life. OAS is currently undertaking a wide range of research projects across New Mexico. Their work integrates advanced techniques like archaeomagnetic dating, ceramic analysis, and radiocarbon sampling to build a more accurate and inclusive picture of the region’s past. In addition to their fieldwork, OAS maintains five state-of-the-art laboratories that support ongoing research and public learning. These include the archaeomagnetic dating lab—one of only a few in the country—and the ethnobotany lab, which studies ancient plant remains to better understand food systems, climate, and cultural adaptation. The team also works closely with Tribal nations and local communities to ensure respectful collaboration and knowledge-sharing in all aspects of their research. OAS’s ability to carry out this important work—and share it through award-winning public education programs—depends on the generosity of donors. This summer, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC) in Santa Fe invites you to experience a vibrant season of exhibitions and events celebrating Native arts, culture, and storytelling. Now on view is Makowa: The Worlds Above Us, a fascinating exhibition that explores Indigenous relationships with the sky through art, science, and ceremony. Visitors can also enjoy Engaging the Future: The Goodman Fellowship Artists, showcasing works by emerging Native artists; and Printing the Pueblo World, featuring linocut prints by Juan Pino (Tesuque Pueblo). Longstanding favorites like Here, Now and Always and the Buchsbaum Gallery of Southwestern Pottery continue to offer rich perspectives on the Southwest’s diverse Indigenous cultures. MIAC’s summer calendar includes hands-on family programming like the Arts Alive! series, and special performances as part of the Native Dance Series. Notable events have included a two-day printmaking workshop with artist Deborah Jojola (Isleta Pueblo) on June 28–29 and an upcoming Polynesian dance performance on July 19. These events are designed to be accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages. As a vital cultural institution, MIAC relies on donor support to bring these dynamic exhibitions and programs to life, and to care for the extraordinary collections that preserve Native heritage for future generations. General Membership Exceeds Goal While final numbers are still being confirmed, we’re proud to report that General Membership surpassed its FY25 goal of $925,000 by more than $5,000. This milestone reflects the incredible dedication of our nearly 8,000 members—nearly 80% of whom renew annually and often increase their support. Heartfelt thanks to our membership team, led by Director Brittny Wood and Stephanie Wilson, for their outstanding work. We’re also grateful to our colleagues across finance, operations, marketing and design, and to our Museum Shops staff who support membership daily at the museums. Membership revenue plays a critical role in funding the Foundation’s operations and advancing our mission to support the Museum of New Mexico system.
