At the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, we know firsthand how philanthropy fuels public impact. As the nonprofit partner to the Museum of New Mexico system, the Foundation helps secure funding that makes a measurable difference across 13 state-run cultural institutions, including:

  • Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

  • Museum of International Folk Art

  • New Mexico Museum of Art

  • New Mexico History Museum

  • New Mexico Historic Sites

  • Office of Archaeological Studies

This public-private partnership ensures that cultural preservation and education are not solely dependent on state budgets. Instead, they are amplified by the generosity of individuals, families, foundations and businesses that believe in the enduring value of art, culture and history.

What Private Giving Makes Possible

In the 2023–24 fiscal year, the Foundation raised more than $11.4 million in earned and contributed revenue. These funds directly supported:

  • $2.7 million for exhibitions, educational outreach and public programs

  • $1.3 million in realized legacy gifts

  • $3.7 million in revenue from the Foundation’s Museum Shops and licensing programs

  • Support for nearly 40,000 students participating in school and family programs

In short, philanthropy bridges the gap between what’s expected and what’s exceptional.

From groundbreaking exhibitions like Amidst Cries from the Rubble: Art of Loss and Resilience from Ukraine to capital campaigns that expand museum infrastructure, donor support powers both the day-to-day and the visionary.
