After participating in the Micaceous Pottery Class I at Los Luceros Historic Site, take the second workshop to learn how to fire micacious pottery. Firing micaceous pottery is a crucial step that enhances its strength and brings out the natural shimmer of the mica. Traditional firing methods, such as open-pit firing, connect the process to centuries-old techniques used by Indigenous potters of the Southwest. In this class you will learn how you can fire your micaceous pottery, including preparing your pot for firing, choose a firing method, open-pit firing process, kiln firing, and finishing touches.

All materials and equipment will be provided with participants taking home their own creations and materials for continuing to practice at home. Classroom work will be held at Los Luceros Historic Site and pottery firing will be done at a nearby site.
