The community is invited to attend a special Town Hall at Fort Stanton Historic Site. Dr. Oliver Horn, Regional Manager of Lincoln and Fort Stanton and Matthew Barbour, Deputy Director of New Mexico Historic Sites will give a presentation to discuss Fort Stanton’s fire mitigation project.

Founded in what was originally a grassland in 1855, Fort Stanton is now under threat from combustible trees, namely Piñon-junipers and Siberian Elms. This presentation will discuss how the landscape changed over the past 170 years and why it poses a fire threat today. They will also discuss Fort Stanton’s current FEMA-funded fire mitigation project, which aims to protect the historic site from wildfires and restore the historic landscape.

This presentation is an opportunity for the public to provide input about the project and learn about the environmental history of Lincoln County. Community members are invited to learn more about this project and ask questions.

Can’t attend the Town Hall? A livestream of the presentation will be hosted through a Zoom webinar: https://nm-gov.zoom.us/j/86758966413?pwd=YwakYTY6WC7WIdffgoBEnYatWijZt5.1
