Indigenous Celebration New Mexico 2022

IC22 is anoverarching international campaign leveraging the impact of the unprecedented number of Indigenous events occurring in Santa Fe and throughout New Mexico during 2022.

Its Mission is: to elevate worldwide Indigenous artists, art and culture through the many events, centennials, exhibitions, and celebrations in New Mexico.

Its Vision is: IC22 will be the world’s most notable destination for Indigenous arts and culture, and Indigenous art will be recognized as truly important original American Art.

IC22 is an overarching international campaign leveraging the impact in 2022 of Santa Fe’s Indian Market (SWAIA) Centennial, the opening of two groundbreaking galleries and seven exhibits at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC - Here, Now and Always and the Balzer Native Market and Contemporary Art Gallery), the 60th anniversary of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), the 50th Anniversary of its contemporary Native arts museum (MoCNA), the centennial anniversary of the School of Advanced Research’s (SAR) Indian Arts Research Center, the Gallup Ceremonial Centennial Celebration, the grand opening of the Bosque Redondo Memorial’s exhibition in Fort Sumner and more. IC22 will highlight these and the many additional unique Indigenous events and celebrations taking place in New Mexico in 2022. This campaign will launch a sea change in the perception of Indigenous Arts, Culture, and Resilience, propelling them to their rightful place as the original American Art and cultural representation. IC22 will be the world’s most notable designation for Indigenous arts and culture.

Some Highlights of the Extraordinary Events in Santa Fe and throughout New Mexico in 2022:

The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC) has seven major openings between February and August 2022, which will highlight and celebrate Indigenous People’s great cultural heritage and the work of Indigenous artists past and present.

Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) Centennial 2022 will be a year of special events to celebrate 100 years of bringing Indigenous arts to the world and featuring the 100th Indian Market August 21-22, 2022.

The Institute of America Indian Arts (IAIA) will celebrate 60/50 with events during 2022 –the 50th anniversary of the IAIA Museum in downtown Santa Fe, The Museum of Contemporary Indian Arts (MoCNA), and the 60th anniversary of the College, celebrating 60 years of educating Indigenous
