Leave a Legacy Without Changing Your Will

Did you know that you can leave a wonderful legacy to benefit your family, friends and the Museum of New Mexico Foundation and the cultural institutions we support using money you no longer need? Consider your checking, savings, investment and retirement accounts. With a beneficiary designation, you can name the people or causes you want to receive what’s left of these accounts to benefit future generations.

Consider Beneficiary Designations as Legacy Gifts

Jane Alexander, a long-time museum donor, foundation member, docent and Friends of Folk Art board member recently joined the MNMF Legacy Society by designating the Museum of International Folk Art (through MNMF) as a beneficiary of her IRA. As a retired financial advisor, she was able to make a tax-wise decision that would have a lasting and long-term impact on the museum as well as allowed her to make a satisfying and meaningful gift that matches her goals, passions and interests.

Jane stated why she chose to name the museum as a beneficiary,

I became a docent at the Folk Art Museum a few months after I moved here in 2011. It was a hard time for me transitioning from an intense but rewarding job in Los Angeles to a retirement life. The years I have spent at the Folk Art Museum have literally saved my life. As a docent and a Friends of Folk Art board member I have made more friends and have transitioned into a fulfilling and happy retirement in Santa Fe. So last year I wanted to give something back to my “happy place”. I became a member of the Legacy Society by designating the Folk Art Museum as a beneficiary of my IRA to specifically benefit the Girard Legacy Endowment Fund. It was a very simple procedure with my investment manager and now I feel like in the future I will be helping the Museum that helped me so much.”
