In Jamie’s opening section of this month’s Trustee E-News, he described in some detail the Opening Gala for the Vladem Contemporary on September 20.  I will let Jamie speak for all of us organizing the Gala and hoping for your support and participation:

“It happens once in a generation, at best, that a new museum building is added to the Museum of New Mexico system.

This moment for us has arrived with the grand opening of the New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary in Santa Fe’s Railyard Arts District.  And what a momentous occasion it promises to be!

I want to personally invite you to join us for the Vladem Contemporary Opening Gala on September 20.  In the company of fellow trustees, members, donors and contemporary art enthusiasts, you will experience an artful evening of inspired cuisine, special entertainment and an exclusive preview of the inaugural exhibition, Shadow and Light, all to benefit the first-year programming at the Vladem.

The Opening Gala will be a sensational event befitting this extraordinary new venue for contemporary art.  Food and beverage stations will be located at different points in the museum building and complemented by unique performances.  This will give you the opportunity to fully discover the Vladem Contemporary that evening, from the main gallery and Education Center on the first floor to the upstairs gallery, Artist-in-Residence Studio, Collection-on-View and outdoor terrace on the second floor.

You will be equally in awe of Shadow and Light, which begins with the works by the Transcendental Painting Group artists Emil Bistttram and Florence Miller Pierce and continues with such well-known artists as Agnes Martin, Larry Bell, Judy Chicago, Ron Cooper, Nancy Holt, and Charles Ross, and including a major installation by Virgil Ortiz. World-renown light artist Leo Villareal has installed a permanent work under the breezeway on the southern end of the building.

The grand opening of the Vladem Contemporary is a major milestone for our community and the Opening Gala is your opportunity to join us in celebrating this history-making event for the Museum of Art, the Railyard, Santa Fe and all of New Mexico.
